Art enriches communities and saves lives!

Your gift supports veterans and the arts!

My name is Tina Drakulich, David J. Drakulich, my son was an artist. He became a soldier soon after the 9-11 attacks. He served in the US Army over 4 years with 3 deployments. He earned many commendations as an Airborne Ranger serving with the 82nd Airborne, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart before he lost his life on January 9, 2008, in Afghanistan in the Global War against Terror. This is why we have David J. Drakulich Foundation For Freedom of Expression (DJD Foundation). Since 2009, DJD Foundation has been serving our veteran and military connected community with arts, humanities and recreation programming.

Over these years, we have found that the arts, humanities and recreation programming begin to address issues of failed reintegration such as suicide and substance abuse. Other benefits include community enrichment through art and dialogue. Perhaps, more importantly, mutual understandings about veterans issues and military service begin to develop when our veterans programming is presented to community audiences. For more information about our programming, please go to www.arthealswarwounds.com .

David J. Drakulich Foundation's Quality Programs:

Combat Paper Nevada makes paper from military uniforms and inspires such art projects as the Legend of 1000 Combat Paper Cranes.

Northern Nevada Veterans Writing Project provides opportunities to compose, edit, refine and publish written works through support groups, peer coaching, mentor coaching, workshops, and publishing opportunities such as seen in Rucksack Revelations and Sea Bag Stories produced with Reno Little Theater, July 2018.

Sgt. Drakulich Memorial Scholarship has been established at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada, for students who are veterans or military connected and taking art.

Military Community Art Programs serve the local military-connected community with art lessons, opportunities to show finished work in galleries, and serve the community with art experiences .

DJD Foundation Operating Expenses are the day-to-day costs to run the foundation. DJD Foundation is mainly aided by the committed volunteers who donate of their time and efforts.
